Our program is based on instrumental advances allowing light to be used to manipulate, control, and measure the properties of atoms and molecules.

Condensed Matter Physics and Materials
Berkeley condensed matter physics is focused on understanding the properties and new physical phenomena that emerge from the aggregation of strongly interacting constituents.
Berkeley nuclear physics faculty work on low-energy neutrino physics, including solar and supernova neutrinos, nuclear astrophysics, and more.
The Berkeley particle physics (experiment and theory) program includes the ATLAS experiment at the LHC, the direct detection of dark matter, neutrino physics and astrophysics, and many aspects of particle astrophysics.
